Ceramics
Technique description
Ceramics – From Greek “kéramos”, clay. This name refers to objects made of clay: vases, plates, but also statues and tiles. Many painters developed an interest in ceramics, Picasso in particular, who realized sculptures and numerous painted terracotta objects. In a general sense, as used in archeology, this term describes any object made of clay mixed with water, shaped and baked in an oven. There is a large variety of ceramics, which depends on the baking temperature (terracotta, faenza, majolica, terraglia fire at a lower temperature compared to porcelain or grès) and on the type of covering used (opaque or enameled).
